05/28/07   All Children’s Hospital Groundbreaking Honors

All Children’s Hospital has consistently earned a lot of recognition and accolades for its care of children. Its services will be greatly expanded with the construction of its new one million square foot facility which will enhance the services provided to children and their families during treatment.

Its under-construction facility consists of a $300 million dollar, 14-story hospital wing, an eight-story outpatient services complex, and a six-story 1,200 space parking garage. This development project is the largest of its kind in the State of Florida.

The new space facilities are being designed with young patients and their families’ comfort in mind. Hospital rooms will be 80% larger and 100% private with bathrooms, showers and sleeping quarters for parents. Additional amenities and creature comforts include TVs, movie units, and computer games to pass the time during visits.

Three indoor adjoining walkways above street level will interconnect all medical services buildings located at the corner of Sixth Avenue South and Sixth Street South. This will increase the ease of care when visiting multiple physicians and treatment centers on site for young patients and their families.

The development project is expected to be completed by Fall 2008.  The 14-story hospital wing will be furnished with a helipad on the 10th floor level of the building.  In addition, a stand-alone Central Energy Plant facility, at approximately 5,800 square feet, will be located off-property and is designed to provide 100% self-sufficient power in case of an emergency power outage that can occur during Florida’s hurricane or thunderstorm seasons.

All Children’s Hospital is considered the “Top Pediatric Provider” in the State of Florida, as referenced in the February 2007 edition of Child Magazine. The hospital was also listed as one of the Top 25 Children’s Hospitals in the United States.

All Children’s Hospital was awarded Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2006 Best Business of the Year Award. Criteria for attaining the regional award included the hospital’s work in pediatric health care, reaching nearly 9,200 patients, 300,000 outpatient visits and 33,000 emergency center calls in 2005.

All Children’s was also named The 2006 Outstanding Business of the Year, for 101 or more employees category, by the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. Criteria for attaining the local honor included its history as an established business, its impact on the local job market, continued economic development in the city, innovation in services, responsiveness to adversity and community needs.

Gary Carnes, President and CEO, of All Children’s Health System stated “Our hospital has a proud tradition of service to children and families from St. Petersburg and many other communities in the nation and it’s all because of the generous support of our staff and entire community that enables us to consistently deliver the best in pediatric health care.” The hospital values its historic roots in St. Petersburg which trace back 80-years and the construction of its new mega children’s and family center will ensure they have an exciting presence in St. Petersburg’s future.

This coming weekend, June 1-3, 2007, kicks off All Children’s Hospital annual fund-raiser event. Two Telethon broadcasts are planned for Saturday June 2nd and Sunday June 3rd supported by local News Channel 8 and Southwest Florida’s sister station CW-6 in Ft. Myers/Naples.

Simultaneously, our community’s highly anticipated “A Taste of Pinellas” event kicks-off in Vinoy Park. This three-day festival on St. Petersburg’s beautiful waterfront features food, live music (local bands and national headliners), fireworks and lots of family fun. More than 50 restaurants serve up tastes from their best menu items. Admission is FREE, and the proceeds from purchased food and beverage ticket sales benefit All Children’s Hospital. The community’s support is a big factor in the success of this annual event. The event is co-sponsored by Sweetbay Supermarkets, Angus Pride and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
