5/26/08   Real Estate Professionals Tour

On Tuesday, May 20th, the City of St. Petersburg’s Economic Development Department along with Pinellas County Economic Development and the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership presented a tour of downtown St. Petersburg to almost 150 commercial brokers, developers, and other real estate professionals.

The morning began with a networking reception at First Central Tower where the tour participants were able to meet each other and network. The City’s Economic Development staff then took the participants on a comprehensive tour of our downtown. The tour highlighted the different office space opportunities in the downtown business district. These include a range of spaces in our premier office towers, recently renovated historic properties, and smaller unique office properties throughout downtown. The tour included a stop at the 100 Bay Central building where the participants were viewed the space that is currently available for lease at that facility.

In addition to the office space availabilities downtown the tour focused on the continually evolving face of the entire downtown community. The tour highlighted many downtown amenities and attributes including the new Progress Energy Center for the Arts, the Bayboro Marine Science District, the City’s 7-mile long waterfront park system, the growing hospital and medical cluster, and the new residential projects throughout the downtown core.

The tour concluded at the Museum of Fine Arts with a lunch program that featured as speakers St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership President, Dr. Peter Betzer; St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker; and Museum of Fine Arts Assistant Director, Roger Zeh.

This tour was organized to showcase the numerous office space and development opportunities that exist in downtown St. Petersburg to a wide variety of both local and regional commercial real estate professionals. St. Petersburg’s downtown is currently experiencing a boon of growth and development, with approximately $1.3 billion in projects built since 2001 or currently under construction. Downtown is home to 7,700 residents with more than 26,000 employees and growing. Fostering economic opportunity is one of the key factors in developing a vibrant and dynamic city and this tour showed that downtown St. Petersburg is a place where businesses, their employees and families, as well as their clients can truly thrive.

Various downtown businesses, economic development entities, and other stakeholders stepped in to sponsor and support the fantastic event. The tour was able to show the participants what a dynamic environment St. Petersburg’s downtown has become.
