5/1/06 St. Petersburg College Announces Accomplishments

St. Petersburg College (SPC) hosted a free continental breakfast Monday, May 1st at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort.  The event, sponsored in part by the St. Petersburg Downtown Partnership, the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, and the city of St. Petersburg, highlighted SPC’s growth, development and plans for the near future.

Attendees learned how SPC has added 84 baccaluareate, master’s and doctoral degrees and more than 1,400 courses within the last six years.  Since 1927, the college has been a leader in providing outstanding, cutting-edge education to St. Petersburg residents and employees of local businesses.  With more than 31,000 students enrolled in its courses, SPC is one of the largest educational institutions in Florida.

SPC’s  Downtown Campus serves over 1,200 students and it continues to grow.  There is more than 50 staff at the site and space has been allotted for Corporate Training opportunities.  The Downtown Campus offers A.M. & P.M. Express classes, which start at 7:00 am and 5:30 pm respectively, allowing a student to take classes and still work a regular schedule year-round.

Additional SPC investments in St. Petersburg include a Midtown Campus within the Achievement Center on 22nd Street S.  This $2 million project provides convenient access to college courses in business, communications, and math, with the flexibility to add classes determined by community needs.  The St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus offers a full slate of courses leading to the baccalaureate, as well as a variety of campus activities geared towards the traditional student.  The Allstate Center Campus is home to the Southeastern Public Safety Institute, as well as the National Terrorism Preparedness Institute.  These research institutes help train current and future public safety officials.
