05/07/07 The
Technology Services Scene Continues to Expand Downtown
St. Petersburg’s business scene is incredibly
diverse, increasing the resiliency of the city’s economy. Though our great
“sunshine city” is inviting to many businesses, five major industry
clusters continue to expand: manufacturing, medical technology, information
technology, marine science and financial services.
Earlier this year an
information technology business arrived from Germany to call St. Petersburg home for its North and Central America operations. Phoenix X-Ray Systems
Inc. is internationally based in Wunstorf, Germany along with its
manufacturing facility. Since its founding in 1999, Phoenix Inc. has grown
to employ a staff of more than 100 strategically positioned in key business
environments throughout the world.
In September 2006,
Phoenix X-Ray Systems Inc, was awarded the “Global Technology Award” by
Global SMT & Packaging Magazine for the “Best Inspection X-Ray
System” available in today’s marketplace. This award proved its strong
position in the market and fueled their new expansion in America to establish a core base of operations in St. Petersburg. Phoenix’s St. Petersburg location,
111 2nd Avenue N.E., was selected to showcase its presence in
the U.S. market and to have a close proximity to its North and Central America customer base.
Phoenix X-Ray Systems
offers a complete range of expertise consultation and application services.
The x-ray units encompass a wide range of technology from high-resolution
2D inspection, to 3D computed tomography units. The units provide quality
assurance on scanning and detecting flaws in dense metal or solid rock
surfaces. The computed tomography units are most applicable in diverse industrial
fields such as electronics, semiconductor, automotive and aero engineering.
In addition, the systems can be used in geological research for rock,
fossil and oil depositories.
The local St. Petersburg office consists of a demo showroom, sales office, and a client training
center. Phoenix X-Ray Systems manufactures all units and develops the
associated software in-house. Clients from North and Central America, visit
St. Petersburg to complete their formal training on Phoenix’s x-ray units.
Phoenix’s affiliation with
a key local technology firm, Jabil Circuit, ensued numerous visits to the
bay area and senior management officials of Phoenix were so impressed with
the region they selected it to establish their North and Central operations
office. St. Petersburg won out over a Tampa site based on three key
factors: location, infrastructure proximity, and city amenities. It was
important to Phoenix X-Ray Systems to locate downtown and find ground floor
office space that could accommodate the size and weight required for the
demo showroom.
The firm started their
operations here with two key management officials from Germany and the remaining staff were hired locally. “Location is always key and when you can have
such a beautiful destination for business clients it heightens the sales
process for clients to come for a tour or training on units purchased”
– stated Mathias May, COO North America Operations.
So what’s ahead in 2007
for Phoenix X-Ray Systems Inc., with an impressive 113% growth rate over
the past seven years and attaining $26.0 million in revenue at the close of
2005? The firm is focused on deploying a greater emphasis on technology and
product development services, human resources capital and strategically
positioning a global presence to better service its ever growing base of worldwide
clientele.
