4/21/08 The Focus is on St. Petersburg Development at
the Real Estate Investment Council, Inc. (REIC)
On April 16, 2008, the Real Estate Investment Council, Inc.
(REIC) held its monthly dinner meeting at the Progress Energy Center of the Arts Mahaffey Theater located along the city’s picturesque downtown
waterfront.
At this month’s meeting, REIC members received an annual
business development update on the City of St. Petersburg. Craig Sher,
president of the Sembler Company, chaired the meeting and Mayor Rick Baker
was featured as the guest speaker for the evening.
Mayor Baker’s presentation focused on “A City on
the Rise, A City of the Arts” which highlighted great development
accomplishments over the prior twelve months, new developments coming
online, a pedestrian friendly atmosphere, nationally acclaimed community
rankings, and an unmistakable great core presence of culture and the arts.
The Mayor also provided time to host a question and answer
session from REIC members. Topics discussed included: preservation of
the city’s charm, projected city budget cuts, Rays’ stadium
proposal and the potential of Tropicana Field’s redevelopment.
REIC was started in 1983 and now includes 207 companies. Its
diverse mix of members includes developers, commercial and residential real
estate agents, leasing agents, and business professionals from all across
the Bay Area region.
