3/6/06 St. Pete Shines – 126,000 IP Addresses Can’t Be Wrong

The City of St. Petersburg Economic Development Department’s web site has had more than 201,000 visits by more than 126,600 unique visitors - measured by Internet Protocol addresses - in the past year, making it the city’s most-visited department web site. For historical perspective, the site had 70,000 visits and only 17,700 unique visitors in the first year online (4/03-4/04).

The web site is a critical part of the department’s larger “St. Petersburg Shines” marketing campaign to promote St. Petersburg as a vibrant economic driver.  These efforts have won a Florida Economic Development Council Award of Excellence and a Southern Economic Development Council Award for Best Marketing Campaign.

Some of the most popular pages on the web site have been the development updates on the Greater Downtown area, Gateway/Carillon, Tyrone/ West St. Petersburg, and South St. Petersburg. These are updated with the latest information, sometimes daily, as the department receives it. The average length of a visit to the web site is five minutes and twenty-eight seconds – well above the internet average of around 30 seconds.

Other popular pages include business resources, photo gallery, helpful links, “10 things you need to know”, current news, business overview, maps, market data, and quality of life. The most popular downloaded documents are maps of the city, and current city real estate for sale.

Additionally, the website serves as an archive for the department’s monthly e-newsletter, “St. Petersburg Shines Update,” and the quarterly economic newsletter “Channel Marker.”  To register to receive these publications, click here.

The department is always looking to improve the web site. If you have any suggestions or comments on the web site please click here.
