3/10/08 City Council Pays a Visit to Synovus
Bank
This past Wednesday,
March 5, 2008, members of St. Petersburg’s City Council visited the
beautiful, new headquarters of Synovus Bank of Tampa Bay, located at 12450 Roosevelt Boulevard. Council Chair James Bennett, Herb Polson, Jeff Danner, Bill
Dudley, and Wengay Newton were hosted by Synovus Bank’s leadership
team that included David Dunbar, CEO; Neil Savage, Chairman; Harold Winner,
President; Bob Williams, Senior Vice-President, Senior Commercial Banker;
Cathy Swanson, Executive Vice-President, Senior Credit Manager; Susan
Blackburn, Executive Vice-President, Retail Banking & Marketing; and
Pattie Richard, Administrative Assistant. All of the senior management of
Synovus has long-standing ties with our community through past affiliations
with three local banks that merged to form Synovus; United Bank and Trust, Peoples
Bank, and United Bank of the Gulf Coast in Sarasota.
Synovus is a full service commercial bank that targets the
needs of small to medium sized businesses. Synovus Bank first established
its headquarters in downtown St. Petersburg in 1996 and their move to the
Gateway area was due to the need for additional facilities to accommodate
their rapid growth. Synovus’ leadership expressed that their
commitment to St. Petersburg’s downtown core remains strong as their
downtown location remains an active banking center for customers as well as
a central hub for all commercial accounts established in the south.
Synovus Bank of Tampa Bay is the oldest and largest community
bank headquartered in St. Petersburg and it employs 290+ people in our
area. Synovus has 20 banking centers throughout its five county coverage
area, including four in St. Petersburg. Synovus Bank of Tampa Bay’s parent company, Synovus Financial Corporation (NYSE:SNV) has the distinction
of being named one of FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to
Work For” in America.
Synovus’ leadership also highlighted their philanthropic
commitment to both the City of St. Petersburg as well as the entire Tampa Bay community. Synovus’ Community Participation Program is responsible for $1.2
million in monetary donations from 2003 through 2007. Synovus focuses their
charitable giving in five areas; the arts, education, social services,
health, and youth advocacy. Thank you Synovus Bank for your commitment to St. Petersburg.
