02/19/07 Ken Jones Receives Minority
Business Award
Congratulations to our own Kenneth L. Jones, Economic
Development Coordinator, who was awarded the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s
Minority Businessperson of the Year in the Government category. Ken joined
the city in July 2000. His previous experience includes the Pinellas
County Urban League, the Dun and Bradstreet Corporation, and the United
States Air Force.
Ken is a proud graduate of Lakewood High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force with goals of seeing
the world, learning a marketable skill, and continuing his education. He
earned an Associate of Science degree and a Bachelor’s of Science degree
before separating from the military. After his service, he earned an MBA
from the University of Florida.
Ken
credits his family for instilling the value of education, hard work, and
service to others. In addition to his work with businesses in his position
at the city, Ken’ s numerous community activities include the Pinellas
County School District’s 500 Role Models Program, Boy Scouts, Kiwanis Club,
NAACP, Pinellas County Urban League and the Pinellas Technical Education
Centers-School Advisory Committee. He is a member of Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in St. Petersburg where he is a ministry leader
and a team member of other ministries.
