12/19/05 Florida reBuilds

Florida reBuilds is a new cooperative initiative that unites the resources of Florida’s Education and Workforce Partners. The Department of Education (DOE) and its education partners will be responsible for establishing construction related training and Workforce Florida (WFI), Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI) and Regional Workforce Boards (RWBs) will be responsible for eligibility and job placement assistance.

The initiative has been created to counter the growing shortage of construction workers in the state and to assist in the reconstruction of areas devastated by hurricanes over the past several years.  Florida reBuilds will focus initially on seven program sectors:  Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Heating Technology, Carpentry, Dry Wall, Electricity, Masonry, Plumbing and Roofing.  Candidates for Florida reBuilds will be registered and enrolled through either the Employ Florida network of One-Stop Centers, a toll-free number (1-866-FLA-2345), or the Florida reBuilds website http://www.floridajobs.org/rebuildflorida/index.html

The website has been established to promote this new initiative and to provide a better understanding of what the program entails. Currently the site includes: Program Overview, Press Release, Occupational Training Areas, Frequently Asked Questions, and an Online Registration Form. The new web site will continue to be enhanced and will establish a "Partners" link that will include general program information, operational guidance, registration and invoicing information.

Listed below are contacts from both organizations that can answer any additional questions about the new initiative, Florida reBuilds.
