12/10/07 Executive Drive in Feather Sound becomes Annexed to the
City of St. Petersburg
Recently, several properties
in the Feather Sound area voluntarily annexed into the municipal boundaries
of St. Petersburg. In all, 27.5 acres in Feather Sound became part of St. Petersburg representing a total tax value of $31.5 million. The properties annexed are
located along Executive Drive and Ulmerton Road, and include La Quinta Inn,
Fairfield Inn, Extended Stay America, Homestead Suites, Bob Evans
Restaurant, Children’s Learning Center, Executive Centre offices and
the Executive Center of Feather Sound office condominiums. Through this
annexation, the city will add an additional 585 hotel rooms, bringing the
city’s total room count to 5,188 or 22.1% of Pinellas County’s total.
This annexation is
the first in Feather Sound since 2004, when the city annexed 20.7 acres to
the east of Executive Drive which included Antonio’s Pasta Grill,
Bank of America, the former Storman’s Palace, Intervest Bank and
Starbucks. The City acquired and upgraded Heron and Egret Boulevards by
resurfacing and landscaping the right-of-way.
The city’s
future plans for Executive Drive include resurfacing, landscaping,
decorative street lighting and new fencing. The medians along Executive Drive will have curbing constructed and be highlighted with palm trees. The
decorative streetlights that exist on the eastern end of Executive Drive will be extended to the 34th Street intersection, and the chain
link fencing adjacent to Ulmerton Road will be upgraded with decorative
metal fence. The site improvements for Executive Drive are expected to be
completed by the fall of 2008.
