On September 11, 2007, the U.S. Department of Labor posted its pre-solicitation notice announcing the agency has begun to accept bids to construct the Pinellas County Job Corps Center which will be located on 18 acres in the Dome Industrial Park (DIP) district.

The U.S. Department of Labor highly encourages HUB-Zone, small disabled veterans, woman-owned, small disadvantaged, 8(a), and small businesses to apply for bid consideration. All project bidders must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR). The construction bid has a deadline of November 1, 2007 by 2:00pm for submissions to Renker Eich Parks Architects.

A pre-bid walk through of the job site was held on October 11, 2007. A complete set of the plans and specifications are available on a first-come, first-serve basis until the architect’s supply has been exhausted. The project’s architect, Renker Eich Parks Architects, is located at 1609 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33704-4203. Requests must be submitted in written form to the architect and require a $200 refundable bid deposit payable to the U.S. Department of Labor.

The construction of the new Job Corps campus will be comprised of nine buildings, and a parking lot for staff and visitors. In total, the campus will have approximately 100 employees and 300 students in the 166,000 square foot facility which will include buildings for Administration and Security, Student Services and Career Counseling, Vocational Education, Vocation Shops, Cafeteria, Dormitories, Recreation and Gymnasium, and Maintenance and Operations. Estimated construction costs for the project exceed $10,000,000.

The DIP is the city’s oldest industrial district with a number of profitable businesses already invested in the area: Film Technologies Inc.; Elreha Printed Circuits Corporation; Bama Seafoods; Euro-Bake and the St. Petersburg Clay Company. The Job Corps center will provide educational and vocational training at, no cost, to cultivate better career tracks for economically disadvantaged persons ages 16 through 24.
