10/10/05 Florida International Museum’s New location and The Beatles Exhibit
In May 2005, The Florida International Museum (FIM) closed
its doors and announced that it would be relocating to a new space in
downtown St. Petersburg. Their new home is at 244 Second Avenue North, and
is part of a brand new downtown campus facility for St. Petersburg College. The partnership between FIM and St. Petersburg College is another great downtown
asset that is truly unique to St. Petersburg.
FIM’s mission is to bring the world to you through
diverse national and international traveling exhibitions. One way in which
they accomplish this is through an affiliation with the Smithsonian
Institution. The Smithsonian Institution’s affiliation program provides
the world renowned museum an opportunity to share some of their artifacts,
programs and expertise to individuals throughout the country who might not
be able to visit its museum complex in Washington DC.
One of the Smithsonian’s traveling shows “The
Beatles! Backstage and Behind the Scenes” is FIM’s opening exhibit to
usher in a new era for the downtown museum. This exhibit will run from October 6, 2005 through January 7, 2006. It focus is on the Beatles 1964 overwhelming successful
United States trip through photos, memorabilia, video and music.
Museum hours are: Tuesday – Saturday 10am to 5 pm; Sunday 12 noon to 5 pm. They are closed on Monday.
